Voting student curator denied by State House
State Rep. Mary Still's proposed legislation to allow one student voting member on the UM System Board of Curators was denied Tuesday by a vote of 8-4. The proposal came about after Missouri lost a Congressional district. Instead of a voting student curator, the House passed a bill in which the Board of Curators will have one voting member from each district and a second member from one district.
Under the current system, the UM System Board of Curators and the Missouri State University Board of Governors have nine voting members, with no more than one person appointed from the same Congressional district. House Bill 174, sponsored by Mike Thomson, R-Maryville, requires at least one voting member, but no more than two, to be appointed from each Congressional district.
