State Treasurer Clint Zweifel running for re-election in 2012
Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel has announced he is running for re-election in 2012.
“My commitment to taxpayers is to get things done — not sit in Jefferson City and bicker over Partisan Politics,” Zweifel said in his re-election campaign news conference. “I work with Democrats and Republicans every day to find opportunities to move the state forward, and I will not be satisfied until every Missourian looking for work finds a job.”
Zweifel said he has reduced office spending and advocated for the MOST 529 plan, the program that aids families in financing and budgeting college expenses prior to the student’s high school graduation date.
“I will remain committed to creating opportunities for citizens — making Missouri a better place to raise a family, go to work and get an education,” he said.
Mike Pridmore, political director of Clint Zweifel for Missouri, said Zweifel is interested in keeping his position because he feels there are opportunities in many areas he can work with.
“Zweifel wishes to remain in his position as treasurer due to there being so much opportunity in various fields that he can touch on,” Pridmore said. “At this time, the economy and education are major aspects of his campaign. While being the first member of his family to attend college, continuing on with a higher education is a great focus to Treasurer Zweifel.”
Zweifel, 35, was first elected in November 2008 and has served as the youngest state treasurer in a century, according to his website. Before serving as state treasurer, Zweifel was a state representative for the 78th district, which covers parts of northeast St. Louis County.
