The Columbia Police Department is sending two Columbia Police Detectives to Georgia to interview Johnny Wright, who was recently arrested on a 24-year-old warrant for the murder of former MU student Rebecca Doisy. Wright was detained when he returned to the Lawrenceville police station for the results of a criminal background check for a job application he had requested the day before. Missouri is once again looking into a ban on carrying guns while intoxicated after a Mississippi County judge ruled the ban unconstitutional in 2008. The state says it has a legitimate concern for intoxicated citizens and a public defender say this inhibits the people’s fundamental right to hold arms, but the Supreme Court will ultimately decide. Department of Natural Resources Director Mark Templeton has been suspended for two weeks without pay after a public beach in the Lake of the Ozarks that was supposed to remain closed due to E-coli contamination was opened two weeks early on Memorial Day weekend. Governor Jay Nixon has asked current deputy DNR director Bill Bryan and a state Department of Corrections inspector to investigate why the beach was reopened.
