Man murdered in Douglass Park
A man was shot today at Douglass Park in what police said was the fifth homicide of the year in Columbia.
Police were called to the park at about 12:54 p.m. on reports of gunshots with one male on the ground, a Columbia Police Department news release stated.
Columbia resident Miles Heard, 29, was transported to University Hospital after police arrived at the park. Heard was pronounced dead soon after he arrived.
CPD believes a large group of people witnessed incident, the news release stated. Some witnesses have come forward but police think there are still some that have yet to contact the department. Any other witnesses are encouraged to contact the Major Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers.
This investigation is ongoing and police were still working on identifying the suspect in the murder as of this evening.
