Hickman fight report released
The Columbia Police Department has released its report about the Oct. 15 fight at Hickman High School. The report started with a summary of the incident. It said Officer Brotemarkle arrived to find over 100 students surrounding an active fight. Brotemarkle noticed one female juvenile, Diamond Thrower, and threw her to the floor.
In the report, Brotemarkle said he felt the fight would get out of control if he didn't act quickly, which is why he threw Thrower on the ground. The report said Brotemarkle used the appropriate amount of force necessary for the situation.
Complaints of excessive force were also made against Brotemarkle after the fight. Brotemarkle pushed a third female juvenile, referred to as JF3 in the report, into the office. The report states Brotemarkle told JF3 to move after finding her in a hallway and JF3 refused. When JF3 refused to Brotemarkle said he felt it was necessary make a sweeping motion with his arm to motion her out of the path of the officers and the arrestees, stated the report.
The report also explained different defense moves used by Brotemarkle during the fight.
