Police respond to three shootings in one night
Police reported three separate gun-related incidents in Columbia between 11:56 p.m. Tuesday and 1:43 a.m. Wednesday. One person was injured.
The first shooting occurred on Claudell Lane at 11:56 p.m. A Columbia Police news release stated the victim, a 25 year-old male, was visiting the area at the time of the shooting. While he was in the area, another man became engaged in a verbal altercation and produced a handgun and shots were fired. The news release stated the victim attempted to flee the scene but was struck by a bullet in his back. Police said the bullet entered the vehicle through the trunk.
The suspect is described as a 5-feet-9-inch, 180 pound, black male wearing a black t-shirt, jeans, and a black baseball hat.
The second incident occurred in the 700 block of Clinkscales Road. Police were responding to a call on West Worley Street when the officers heard a single shot fired east of them. Residents in the area also called police.
When officers arrived at the scene they spoke to witnesses and were able to approximate where the gunshot was fired, a release stated. At the time of the news release, police said they haven't determined when the bullet hit.
The third occurred at a convenience store on Rangeline Street at approximately 1:43 a.m. The attendant had called police needing assistance clearing out the parking lot. While the attendant was on the phone with the dispatcher, a person in the parking lot fired multiple gunshots. Officers in the area responded after hearing the shots.
When officers arrived at the scene, the clerk gave a description of the vehicle. Police tried to stop the car, and the driver led officers on a short pursuit before pulling over.
The driver and all of the passengers were detained. Officers discovered two of the passengers had outstanding warrants and found stolen handgun in the car. Some shells from the scene were identified as having come from the respective handgun. It was also determined that a second handgun was involved in the incident
A later news release reported that police arrested Kyeir Theus, John C. Jones, Zebedee Creal and Jazmine Creal, all of Kansas City, Mo.
Theus, 22, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, armed criminal action, recieving stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm and a warrant for second-degree burglary. His bond has not been set.
Jones, 21, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon and a warrant for failing to appear in court. His bond has been set at $4,500.
Zebedee Creal, 22, was arrested on suspicion of abading a person discharging a weapon from a vehicle, resisting arrest, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and traffic charges. His bond has been set at $9,685.
Jazmine Creal, 20, was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia. She has been released.
Police said they believe another suspect might still be at large.
