Fraternity member assaulted
A member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity was assaulted early this morning in his fraternity house, a Columbia Police Department news release said.
At about 2:30 a.m. an off duty CPD officer heard yelling in the area of Clarkson and Burnam. When he contacted the group of subjects they said they were on their way to a local fraternity. The officer advised the group not to proceed to the fraternity and he contacted on-duty officers in the area to inform them of the group.
While officers were checking the area several suspects ran from police and about this time the victim called from the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity to report the he had been assaulted.
The victim heard noise on the side of the house and went to the front door believing the noise was possibly coming from fellow members of the fraternity. When he opened the door a suspect, Timothy Cain, pushed him down, the news release stated. The victim suffered minor injuries.
The victim and a witness observed Cain destroying property in the house. The other suspects were outside the house. Cain fled the scene when he was told the police were being called.
The suspects were taken into custody shortly after and were identified by the victim and witness.
