Car accident results in one injury
A one-car accident occurred this morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. The car, a 2003 Ford Taurus, was westbound on I-70 at the connector when the vehicle struck the guardrail, a Columbia Police Department news release stated.
Firefighters had to use hydraulic tools and equipment to remove the driver, Mary E. Reifsteck, 39, from her vehicle in under five minutes. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to the release. Reifsteck was transported to University Hospital with moderate injuries.
The Department of Natural Resources was also notified because leakage from the fuel tank ran into Hinkson Creek.
