Handgun found in high school student's backpack

At 11:40 a.m. the Hickman High School Resource Officer checked a 17-year-old Hickman student for underage smoking.

During this interaction, the subject attempted to deceive the officer. Then, during a search, an unloaded handgun was located in the subject’s backpack.  The subject admitted to having the weapon on school property.

He was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon.
