The Columbia Fire Department has released fire statistics for 2008 this month, which will be presented to the Columbia City Council at their meeting tomorrow night.

According to the report, the department responded to 9230 calls, of which 65.25 percent were Emergency Medical Services or rescue calls. Less than five percent were structure fires.

The most calls in a single month, 860, came in December, and November had the fewest with 718. The average number of calls per month was 769.

The report indicated that 11 civilians and three department personnel were injured in 2008, and there were two deaths, which were the result of an explosion at a home on McNab Drive in March.
