City Manager Bill Watkins will meet with his citizen advising committee Friday to narrow the candidates for the new police chief from four to two, a news release from the city stated.

The meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Daniel Boone Building and is closed to the public.

The citizen committee will give their opinions about the candidates they met on Jan. 13 and 14.

"The advisory committee and the citizens who participated in the search process really are dedicated to this task, and I appreciate it,” Watkins said in the news release. “I take their advice seriously."

The next step could be to talk to people in the candidate’s hometown.

"Out of an abundance of caution, I need to hear what others who have worked closely with the candidates say about them,” Watkins said in the news release.

The names of the remaining two candidates will be announced after the committee meeting.
