CPD investigates homicide
The Columbia Police Department is investigating an apparent homicide Thursday evening, a CPD news release stated.
CPD officers responded to a call of a reported disturbance at the Red Roof Inn at 201 East Texas Ave. at 8:47 p.m. Thursday. Officers found a 26-year-old female victim lying in the parking lot with trauma to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release stated. The name of the victim, who is a Columbia resident, will not be released until CPD contacts the victim's next of kin.
A vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high speed. The Boone County Sheriff's Department later located the vehicle in Midway. According to the news release, the Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
