Investigations continue for winery sexual assaults

The two cases of sexual assault involving MU students at Les Bourgeois Vineyard in early September are moving forward in their investigations by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

“One of the sexual assault cases was submitted to the prosecutor’s office who requested more investigation on that case,” said Major Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The two sexual assaults were reported within a week of each other, one on Sept. 13 and the second on Sept. 18. Both incidents took place at parties that the winery hosted for college students and prompted the winery to cancel their next 15 scheduled events after the incidents happened. The incident that was reported on Sept. 13 took place on Sept. 2 while the incident reported on the 18 took place a day earlier.

“The other case had evidence that was sent off the Missouri Highway Patrol Crime Lab,” Reddin said.

The lab takes evidence from all around the state of Missouri and has to prioritize and organize which evidence is processed first, he said.

“It will probably be a while before we get the evidence back,” Reddin said.

Another incident involving a MU student being run over by a bus happened close to the dates of the assaults.
