CPD releases traffic detail results
Columbia Police Department officers made 79 traffic stops in a special traffic detail last week, a CPD news release stated.
The detail was conducted along Interstate 70 on Nov. 25, with officers concentrating on moving violations and equipment and seatbelt violations, the news release stated. The detail resulted in 72 drivers receiving citations for speeding, three citations for equipment violations and three arrests.
CPD spokeswoman Jessie Haden said the traffic detail was a success.
“There is always going to be people exceeding the speed limit,” Haden said. “I think it was probably right in line with what the department expected.”
Officers also patrolled and issued four citations for Missouri’s “Move Over” statute. CPD has conducted a “Move Over” detail before, but Haden said it something they wanted to include again.
The MU Police Department also participated in the traffic detail, the news release stated. Other agencies were also invited to participate. Haden also said the Boone County Sheriff’s Department did a recent detail on their own outside Columbia for Boone County.
According to the news release, CPD officers will be doing special traffic enforcement along Stadium Boulevard. Officers will be looking for drivers who block intersections, drive along the shoulder and other traffic violations, the news release stated.
“The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is often a time when our roadways are heavily traveled,” Haden said in the release. “This can equal a dangerous time, unless drivers are careful and think ahead.”
