Fourth victim dies from Kansas shooting
An 89-year-old woman who was allegedly shot Saturday night by a former Columbia Water and Light director at her home in Burlingame, Kan. died Tuesday night, according to the Kansas attorney general’s office.
James Kraig Kahler, the 46-year-old former director, will likely get an amended charge to the attempted first degree murder of the woman, Dorothy Wight, the grandmother of Kahler’s estranged wife, Karen Kahler, said Ashley Anstaett, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office.
Anastaett said Kahler was charged with capital murder on Monday in the deaths of his 44-year-old estranged wife and their daughters, 18-year-old Emily and 16-year-old Lauren. The alleged shooting occurred last Saturday evening at Wight’s home, and James Kraig Kahler is also charged with aggravated burglary of her home.
Sean, the Kahlers’ 10-year-old son, is with family now, Anstaett said.
“He was in the house, but he escaped safely,” she said. “He was able to get to a neighbor’s home.”
Bond for Kahler was set at $10 million in cash only. A preliminary hearing was set for Dec. 10, Anstaett said.
