CPD officer's employment terminated

A Columbia Police Department officer was terminated from employment by CPD Chief Kenneth Burton on Friday, a CPD news release stated.

CPD Officer Ted Anderson, an 18-year veteran of CPD was off duty and arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in his personal vehicle around 2 a.m. Nov. 24, the news release stated.

According to the news release, the decision was necessitated as a result of the arrest and issues surrounding it. While his guilt or innocence has yet to be determined in a court of law, Chief Burton saw this action as necessary in the best interests of CPD, the news release stated.

Due to the closed nature of personnel actions, CPD will not be commenting further about the incident, the news release stated.
