Columbia driver hits house
A Columbia man crashed his vehicle into the front door of a house at 1126 Old Plank Road Saturday morning.
Claude Clark was driving westbound when he tried to avoid an animal that was crossing the road, stated a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
He overcorrected and lost control of his vehicle, passing over the center line and leaving the south side of the road.
Clark’s vehicle then crossed the resident’s yard and crashed into the front door.
Volunteer firefighters from the Boone County Fire Protection District responded to the scene as a precaution in case the car or yard caught fire.
Clark was not wearing his seatbelt when the accident happened.
The house had minor damage as a result of the accident but no injuries were reported, the news release stated.
Clark was cited and issued a summons for failure to provide proof of insurance. There was no citation for not wearing a seatbelt.
CPD Lt. Scott Young said there is no difference when investigating an accident that involves and a vehicle and a residence and a vehicle and another vehicle.
“It’s the same as if we were (investigating) two cars, except that we were pretty certain the house was parked when it was hit,” Young said.
Young said there are no additional or special repercussions for drivers who are involved in a crash like this.
Young said this type of accident isn’t common in Columbia.
“That doesn’t happen very often,” said Young of the incident. “There just wasn’t much to it. The guy swerved, missed a deer, apparently, lost control, and hit a house.”
