Gun thrown from window during police search
Police are still unsure who threw a handgun from the second story window of the house they were searching at 809 N. Garth Ave. Thursday afternoon, stated a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
A Narcotics Unit detective applied for the search warrant for the house after becoming involved in the Patrol Division's investigation of suspected drug activity, the news release stated.
While entering the home, the police saw the handgun, a loaded Kahr Arms .40 caliber semi-automatic, being dropped from the window, the news release stated.
The gun was reported stolen in Kansas City, Mo.
Police found 11 people in the home during the search.
Two of the 11 had outstanding warrants of arrest. Devin D. Jackson, 17, of Columbia, was arrested for a peace disturbance with a bond of $300, and Gloria L. Patrick, 19, of Columbia, was arrested for theft and for a traffic violation with bonds of $450 and $297.50, the news release stated.
Police are still investigating who threw the firearm out the window. No other evidence was seized at the property.
