One dead after accident on Route B
A crash in the 4500 block of Route B claimed the life of a Sacramento, Calif. woman and injured two others Thursday evening, according to a news release from the Columbia Fire Department.
Michael Ladd, 42, the driver of a 2008 Chevy C3500 pickup truck, was traveling south when he veered into the path of a northbound 2000 Ford Taurus carrying Janet M. Bakos, 44, and Sadie Elliot, 71. The truck hit the car, causing the two vehicles to spin out of control, stated a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
Bakos, the driver of the Taurus, was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics, the fire department news release stated.
Ladd was found lying in the grass on the side of the road and was treated on the scene before being sent to University Hospitals with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Elliot, the passenger in the Taurus, was extricated from the vehicle by the fire department and was taken to University Hospitals.
Both Ladd and Elliott were listed in stable condition, the police department news release stated.
Traffic in all lanes and both directions on Route B were closed between U.S. Highway 63 and Waco Road while personnel treated the victims and investigated the crash.
The police department is still investigating the crash.
