Man arrested in connection with gun disturbance
A man was arrested after brandishing a gun at his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend and young child Wednesday night, a news release from the Columbia Police Department stated.
Roosevelt Woods, 24, of 2701 E. Nifong Blvd., was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully using a weapon, third-degree domestic assault and second-degree child endangerment, the news release stated.
Woods went to 111 Benton St. to pick up his child from the child’s mother, bringing a firearm with him. The boyfriend of the child’s mother, Gerald Ford, 23, had previously threatened Woods with a firearm.
After a verbal disturbance Woods struck his estranged girlfriend with an open hand and pointed a handgun at Ford. The 1-and-a-half-year-old child was in the middle of the altercation and the brandishing of the firearm, the news release stated.
A police car was driving nearby at the time and intervened.
Ford was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a small amount of marijuana, the news release stated.
