Death threats shouted on Ross Street

A Columbia man was arrested in connection with a disturbance Sunday morning at 1417 Ross St., stated a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

Corey Martin, 21, of 1503 Anthony St., was arrested on suspicion of an unlawful use of a weapon.

Police responded to a report of loud music in the area and the responding officer heard someone shouting death threats.

The officer saw someone pointing a long gun at another person, the news release stated.

After entering the house police detained three of the four suspects on the front porch, while one ran back into the house.

The police received no cooperation from the people in the house or the three detained suspects for the next hour.

Officers could see a man attempting to leave but forcibly being kept inside the house by another suspect. Officers negotiated with the principle suspect through windows and cell phones, the news release stated.

The man who was trying to leave eventually came out and said someone had been pointing a gun at someone and death threats were shouted, the news release stated.

The other suspects exited the house and officers were able to check the residence.

Officers discovered the weapon in question was an air rifle, the news release stated.
