John C. Wingate was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary after a short car chase with police Monday afternoon

Two men were arrested in connection with a burglary at 1418 Raleigh Drive Monday afternoon, stated a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

Terry Allen Simmons, 21, and John Cornelius Wingate, 23, both of Columbia, were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary.

A witness in a neighboring house saw the burglary taking place and called police, the news release stated. The witness gave descriptions of the suspects, their vehicles and the direction in which they fled the scene.

CPD officers were able to locate the vehicle on Rangeline Street near Vandiver Drive. The vehicle refused to pull over and a short, slow-speed chase followed. Speeds never exceeded 35 mph, the news release stated.

The suspects eventually pulled into a residential driveway in the 1400 block of Sylvan.

Simmons and Wingate were taken into custody without incident. Several items of property were recovered from the vehicle, the news release stated.

Simmons, the driver, was also charged with driving with a revoked license and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle
