City bus crashes on Old 63

A Columbia Transit bus carrying students to The Reserve and Campus Lodge lost control at Bearfield Road and Old 63 on Thursday night. The bus pinned another car into a power pole; no injuries were reported.

A city bus lost control in the roundabout at Bearfield Road and Old 63 S. around 5:45 p.m. Thursday and broadsided a car.

The bus driver Rhonda Banks, 37, lost control of the bus, drove over a concrete island and hit the 2001 Infinity I30 on the driver side door, stated a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

CPD Lt. Scott Young said the car was trapped under the bus for a while.

The car's driver, James Clarkson, 23, was extricated from the car and taken to University Hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries, the news release stated.

There was one passenger in Clarkson's car, Nicole Chow, 21. Chow was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Both Banks and Clarkson were wearing seatbelts too, the news release stated.

Clarkson is in stable condition and is being held at the hospital for observation.

There were 14 passengers on the bus at the time of the crash and none of them reported any injuries during the police department's investigation, the news release stated.
