Highway 63 collision results in one injury

A Columbia man was injured after an accident Sunday night on Highway 63, stated a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

Lawrence Mayes, 40, received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Mayes and Barry Nichols, 51, of Ashland, were both driving south on Highway 63 near Discovery Parkway. Nichols was attempting to change from the right to left lane when the two vehicles collided, the news release stated.

Mayes’ vehicle was driven off the roadway, where it flipped several times, and he was thrown from the car.

Mayes was issued a citation for not wearing a seatbelt, the news release stated.

Nichols was issued a citation for unsafe movement on the roadway and was not injured.
