Man attacked in northeast Columbia
A 19-year-old man was almost robbed around 1 a.m. Friday on the northeast side of Columbia at the intersection of Derby Ridge and Typhoon Court.
The victim was traveling on a motor scooter when he was approached by two men with their faces covered. One of the suspects said he had a gun, but the gun was not seen, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
The two men demanded the victim’s scooter and other belongings. The suspects then attacked the victim with their fists, and the victim retaliated and the attackers fled on foot, the release stated.
Police recommend victims don’t fight back when being attacked.
“We don’t recommend you fight back generally,” CPD Sgt. Daniel Beckman said. "In this case he was lucky. The victim was able to get away with no property stolen and minimal injuries."
Beckman said there have been problems in the area of the incident. The case is still under investigation and no further details have been released.
