Homicide suspect arrested in 33-year-old case

The Columbia Police Department was contacted Monday by law enforcement officers in Georgia that a suspect from a 33-year-old Columbia homicide case was in custody, a CPD news release stated.

The suspect, Johnny Wright, was arrested by a warrant issued in November 1985 for a 1976 homicide that happened in Columbia. Wright is 65-years-old.

According to the news release, the victim, Rebecca A. Doisy, was reported missing by her sister on Aug. 7, 1976. Doisy, 23 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen alive on Aug. 5, 1976. Doisy was a part-time waitress at Ernie's Steakhouse.

Once the warrant was issued in 1985 a nationwide search was conducted. Wright was arrested on Sept. 23, and is in custody in Lawrenceville, Ga. Wright's bond is set at $100,000, the news release stated.

Rebecca was my aunt. I am thrilled that this man is finally in custody and I pray that he will reveal the location of the body so this will all be over. It saddens me to realize this is the only article I could find on her abduction and presumed murder.
