Police arrest seventh suspect in Hobson homicide

A seventh suspect has been arrested in connection with the October shooting death of Aaron Hobson.

Police arrested Lee W. Carter, 23, on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree robbery on Tuesday. He was transported to the Boone County Jail.

Hobson, 22, was shot and killed during an apparent robbery at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.

According to a Columbia Police Department news release, Carter provided a post-Miranda statement admitting he assaulted the victim with a bottle. The person who was in Hobson's car at the time of shooting said they were approached by several suspects who demanded Hobson's money, the release stated.

After the shooting, several suspects, including Carter, ran from the area, the release stated. He was later identified using surveillance footage from the Break Time.

In previous Maneater reports, CPD spokeswoman Jessie Haden said the shooting came shortly after police broke up a party close to the Break Time. Guests of the party were congregating at the convenience store, she said.

“One officer was close by because she had been to the party," Haden said. “She was practically there when shots rang out.”
