CPD arrests one for animal abuse
Columbia Police Department officers rescued two dogs from a possible dog fighting incident in northeast Columbia on Sunday, a CPD news release stated. An animal control officer took the injured dogs into custody.
A witness told CPD a fight happened between one of these two dogs and a third, which was removed from the premises before the officers’ arrival, the news release stated. The witness said the third dog had possible life-threatening injuries.
Juan C. Laboy, 28, was arrested for one count of animal abuse, the release stated. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia that were found in his home.
CPD are investigating the possible dog fighting incident.
