CPD investigating shooting near Columbia College
Columbia Police officers responded to reports of a shooting near Circus Avenue and Rogers Street last night around 9:07 p.m.
CPD Detective Jeff Westbrook said there were several calls from neighbors in the area reporting shots fired. When officers responded to the scene, they found a victim who was shot in the stomach. The victim is 38 years old and is from Kansas City, Westbrook said.
“He was operated on last night,” Westbrook said. “Our investigators with the Major Crimes Unit spoke with him and he was able to give a statement.”
Westbrook said the victim did not give any indication that he knew the person who shot him. Evidence found at the scene of the shooting has led officers to believe the incident to be drug-related.
CPD is conducting a search warrant of a vehicle at the scene. Westbrook said officers believe the vehicle was involved with the incident but did not belong to the suspect.
Westbrook said there have been no arrests made at this time.
