CPD investigating assault near Columbia College
James Palmer, 27, was arrested on suspicion of assault near Columbia College.
The victim, who is dating Palmer’s sister, suffered from facial swelling, a jaw fracture and was having trouble breathing when officers arrived, Columbia Police Department Detective Jeff Westbrook said. Palmer’s sister tried to pull the two apart and was partially successful before police arrived, Westbrook said.
Although the crime happened close to campus, nobody involved in the incident is a Columbia College student. The assault is not related to a shooting that happened nearby last week, Westbrook said.
