Gun on campus reported at KU
A University of Kansas residence hall was placed on alert after two reports of a possible gun on campus. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
According to a release on the KU Web site, McCollum Hall was placed on alert after a resident reported hearing an argument in which someone said "Where is my gun?" The resident reported the remark to residence hall staff who called police at about 1:55 p.m. Friday. Another resident reportedly saw a man with a handgun near the hall.
Students received a text message through the university's alert system. Residents in McCollum Hall were ordered not to leave the building while students outside the hall were warned to stay away.
Police conducted a room-by-room search and declared the building safe at around 6:55 p.m. They said they did not locate any gun.
McCollum Hall is KU's largest residence hall, housing about 900 students. It is located in the middle of the campus.
