Arrest made in armed robbery
A Columbia man was arrested Thursday in connection with a May 9 armed robbery. According to a Columbia Police Department news release, a 29-year-old male victim was robbed at gunpoint after attempting to deliver a pizza on Benton St. Officers responded to the report at about 12:30 a.m.
One of the suspects had a black handgun. The suspects stole the victim's cash as well as his necklace, the release stated.
At about 8 p.m. Thursday, a police officer stopped a Toyota Camry which had plates registered to a Chevrolet. One of the passengers was 17-year-old Martrell T. Smith, who had been identified as a suspect in the robbery. According to the news release, Smith was wearing a necklace that matched the description of the one stolen during the robbery.
Smith was arrested on the charge of first-degree robbery and transported to CPD. The victim of the robbery positively identified the necklace Smith was wearing.
Smith is in the Boone County Jail. His bond has been set at $100,000, the release stated.
Detectives are still investigating this case and anticipate further arrests.
