Columbia man convicted on child porn charges
A Columbia man was convicted Tuesday of possessing child pornography.
According to a press release from the Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force, a jury found Joshua Michael Edmond, 22, of Columbia, guilty of possession of child pornography, a felony.
The release said Boone County Sheriff’s Department detectives began investigating Edmond in November after they found he was offering child pornography through an Internet file-sharing site from his Columbia apartment.
Detectives searched his apartment with a warrant on Nov. 23 and seized a computer. Several videos depicting sexual molestation of children as young as seven were found on it. Edmond was charged in December.
Andy Anderson, a detective on the task force, said Wednesday the conviction was the result of teamwork between task force detectives and the prosecutors.
“I think it was a combination of the effectiveness of the task force and us working together with the prosecutor’s office,” Anderson said. “Our job doesn’t end at the time of arrest.”
Edmond is scheduled to be sentenced July 19.
