MUPD plans sobriety checkpoint for weekend
Local law enforcement agencies will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on or near campus over the coming weekend, an MU Police Department news release stated Wednesday. The checkpoint will be a collaborative effort between MUPD, the Columbia Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
The checkpoint will take place between Friday and Sunday and will be conducted between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., the release stated.
“The department once again wants to send a clear message, at the beginning of the school year, that the University Police Department will not tolerate driving while intoxicated offenses in our campus community," MUPD Captain Brian Weimer said in the news release. "While the department makes a proactive attempt to provide educational information and resources to prevent drunk driving, we also actively take action to enforce alcohol related offenses."
