Teen suspected in fairgrounds shooting
A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday evening in connection with last month's shooting at the Boone County Fair. According to a Boone County Sheriff's Department news release, the suspect, 14, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon, assault, armed criminal action and leaving the scene of a shooting. Police are not releasing the suspect's name because of his age.
A citizen who knew police were looking for the suspect contacted law enforcement officials after seeing him riding in a vehicle. Columbia Police officers responded to an apartment on Whitegate Drive and arrested the teen without incident at about 6 p.m., the release stated.
An 18-year-old Columbia man was wounded in the July shooting. He was released from a local hospital after being treated for a gunshot to his left hip.
