Robbery suspect surrenders after eight hours
Columbia Police Department vehicles gather at the home of Columbia resident Michael Joe Robinson on Tuesday night. Robinson was arrested in connection with a robbery earlier this month after police were at his home for eight hours.
A robbery suspect surrendered to police late Tuesday night nearly eight hours after police sought him at his home.
According to a Columbia Police Department news release, officers attempted to locate suspect Michael J. Robinson, 29, at his home in the 2900 block of Leeway Drive at about 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Shortly after 10 p.m., CPD issued a news release stating officers believed Robinson was inside his residence and were working toward a "peaceful surrender."
Robinson is accused of participating in a July armed robbery in Columbia. The victim was robbed at his home. Investigators identified two other Columbia residents, Randall King, 23, and Harlequin M. Harris, 23, as a suspects in the case. King was arrested for first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. According to the news release, police had been unable to locate Harris and have applied for a warrant for his arrest.
Investigators later identified Robinson as a third suspect. Police arrested him at about 10:30 p.m. after he surrendered without incident, a later news release stated.
