Columbia man arrested after police chase

A Columbia man was arrested early Wednesday morning after a vehicle pursuit through eastern Columbia.

Darious Ashton Lucas, 19, was arrested in the 1600 block of Cocoa Court around 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department. The release stated that a deputy had tried to pull Lucas over for speeding and multiple lane violations on Rock Quarry Road. Lucas failed to stop and a pursuit began.

The release stated that the pursuit entered several areas in eastern Columbia including Old Highway 63, Business Loop 70 East, the I-70/Highway 63 connector, Keene Street, East Broadway Street, and Clark Lane.

Lucas struck a utiltiy box and a parked car in the 1600 block of Hanover Boulevard and abandoned the vehicle, police said. A short foot pursuit ensued and Lucas was arrested in a duplex on Cocoa Court. He was related to the resident of the duplex, the release stated.

Lucas was charged with creating substantial risk of serious physical injury or death, misdemeanor and felony counts of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, driving while suspended, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and careless and imprudent driving. A passenger in Lucas' vehicle was interviewed and released.

The release stated that Lucas was transported to Boone County Jail and held in lieu of $11,000 bond but was not among the inmates at the jail on the Sheriff's Department website as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.
