Sorority member reports online threats
Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly threatened a member of Zeta Tau Alpha via Facebook.
The victim, 18, reported the threats to police on Sept. 10, shortly after noon. Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jessie Haden said the victim received threatening messages after adding someone named Michelle Jenson as a friend.
"She reported it internally and at some point somebody mentioned it should be reported to us as well," Haden said.
Haden said the exchange began as a normal conversation and then became harassment.
"Right now we’re not saying what the nature of the threats are in order to preserve the case," Haden said.
Only one victim has come forward and reported threats, but Haden said other sorority members had added Jenson as a friend.
Police are continuing to investigate the threats.
"It will be a matter of what we can do forensically," Haden said. "It can be very easy sometimes. It’s obviously a whole different realm than if something is face-to-face."
