Victim holds larceny suspect at gunpoint

Columbia police officers responded to a report of an in-progress larceny at Tuesday on W. Texas Avenue.

According to a Columbia Police Department news release, a woman called 911 at about 1:45 a.m. and told dispatchers the suspect had locked himself in a truck and her husband was holding him at gunpoint.

When officers arrived, they found Shamkeith Taylor, 27, inside the truck. He did not initially comply with police orders, but eventually exited the vehicle, the release stated. Taylor was in possession of several stolen items from multiple vehicles.

The victim told police he looked outside when he heard his dog barking, the news release stated. When he noticed the interior lights for his vehicle were on, he went outside and found his toolbox from one of the vehicles on the ground. He then checked around the house and did not initially see the suspect, then noticed him sitting inside his truck.

The victim then pulled his gun and pointed it at the suspect until police arrived. Responding officers also found an active warrant from Pettis County for second-degree robbery. Taylor was arrested for the warrant, and on charges of felony Stealing, and felony receiving stolen property. His total bond was $84,000, the release stated.
