Police make arrest in stabbing near The Blue Fugue downtown

Police responded to a stabbing Wednesday evening in an alley next to The Blue Fugue between Ninth and Tenth streets.

In an e-mail, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said the victim was stabbed in the abdomen and transported to a hospital for medical attention. He was able to talk to officers after the attack, which occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Police have a suspect in custody.

Update: Deanthony Weir, 26, was taken into custody without incident. He was apprehended seven minutes after the call was received.

The victim told officers he was letting his dog in the alley, when he encountered Weir, who was urinating. Weir urinated on the victim's dog, and when the victim responded negatively, Weir became angry. He proceeded to stab the victim. The victim is at the hospital and his condition is unkown.

Weir was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, and his bond has yet to be set.
