Highway chase ends in Columbia
Columbia Police Department officers assisted with a high-speed chase down I-70 in pursuit of a stolen car from Callaway County. The suspect then crashed the stolen car in Columbia, CPD Lt. Tim Moriarity said. He said he thinks the suspect was the only one involved in the crash.
According to a traffic message issued by Columbia-Boone County Joint Communications, one lane of I-70 was temporarily shut down east of Highway 63. That portion of I-70 has since reopened.
Moriarity said spike strips were laid down to help catch the suspect driving the stolen vehicle. Moriarity said there was a complaint by another driver that they had run over the strips unintentionally. A semi-truck also ran over spikes lying on the side of the road when he pulled over.
