Four injured after party of approximately 300 broken up by police

At approximately 1:07 a.m. June 25, Columbia police officers were dispatched to a large party in the vicinity of 1912 Foyer Court.

According to a news release, there were “approximately 300 people” at the party. As the officers were ordering the partygoers to disperse, shots were fired approximately 150 feet north of Foyer Court, which is located just east of Bear Creek Park and just south of Albert Oakland Park. A total of four people were injured from the gunfire. Three were hurt by flying glass.

“Officers located three individuals who had been sitting in a car with one bullet through the windshield," the news release stated. "The three occupants of the vehicle were injured by the flying glass from the bullet entering the windshield. All three victims had minor injuries from the glass. Officers located a round in the front passenger seat of that vehicle."

A fourth victim was also struck in the left earlobe from a bullet. The victim was further down the street from the vehicle, according to a news release, and was taken to the hospital to be treated.

“A total of eight shell casings were located at the scene. There is no suspect description and no arrests have been made at this time,” the release stated.

“These large parties are dangerous because you can’t know 300 hundred people well enough to know all of their intentions,” CPD spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said. Wieneke described all people at the party as college-aged.

As of Tuesday morning, nothing new about the incident had been reported, said CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer.

According to the website www.raidsonline.com, which collects information from CPD records, there have been more than 300 instances of aggravated assault in Columbia over the past year. Only two homicides have been reported.
