Police search for suspect in downtown stabbing

Columbia police are searching for a male suspect involved with the stabbing of a 19-year-old woman Tuesday night near Columbia Cemetery.

The woman was walking along Broadway near the cemetery at about 8 p.m. when a man grabbed her from behind and took her to the ground, according to a Columbia Police Department news release. The man attempted to stab the victim, but she escaped and fled on foot.

The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance for a cut to the chest, minor cuts to her legs and a cut on the hand that required stitches.

The suspect is a white male in his mid-30s with blonde hair and multiple tattoos and piercings. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
