Columbia man assaults two women, threatens them with knife

Two women were assaulted Monday evening by a man they both knew at a home on Demaret Drive. Larry Gene Parnell, 29, was arrested for third-degree assault, second-degree assault and armed criminal action.

According to the Boone County Sheriff's Department's news release, a 9-1-1 call was received from a cellular telephone and an argument could be overheard between a male and two females. The male was making threats to assault someone with a knife.

Deputies were told that Parnell became involved in a verbal argument with a woman he knew. During the course of the argument, he punched her in the stomach and threatened her with a knife, at one point placing the knife to her throat.

The second victim was assaulted when Parnell thought she called 9-1-1.

Parnell's bond for the two assault charges is $5,500.00. Bond for Armed Criminal Action must be set by a judge and has not yet been set.
