Members of the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 2:22 a.m. Wednesday morning on Chapel Hill Road.
According to the Columbia Fire Department's news release, smoke and fire were visible from the roadway. The fire was knocked down at 2:47 a.m., while crews searched the structure for occupants. The him was a multi-family dwelling with residents occupying the first floor and basement. First floor residents woke up the basement residents and evacuated the structure and got into a vehicle before fire crews arrived.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Assistant Fire Marshal Tim Bach estimates the damage at $50,000.00.
