High school student arrested for gun possession

A 17-year-old student was arrested Wednesday after bringing a gun to Hickman High School.

Deaunadre E. Lewis-Gatewood is accused of bringing a gun to school. It was brought to the attention of school authorities when a student reported seeing Lewis-Gatewood showing it to another student, according to a news release.

Officials searched his backpack and found an unloaded gun, which was found to have been stolen 30 years ago from out of state. He was not in possession of any ammunition.

Lewis-Gatewood is being charged with unlawful use of a weapon and receiving solon property, both felonies.
