Opening Statements
Bob Schieffer had an interesting question to start the debate: he asked each candidate why their proposals were better than the other.
McCain started out by getting specific with his new proposals, especially his proposal to buy bad home loans. He is also being forceful and trying to channel some of the anger of Americans about the financial crisis. McCain is also going after Obama, saying that he actually wants to raise middle class taxes.
Obama has being focusing on the middle class with is remarks, including talk about jobs, providing a middle class tax cut, and explaining his differences with McCain's plan. Both seem fairly genial so far in the debate.
This is looking like it might be a fairly tough debate between the two candidates.
