UM System recommends tuition and required fees increase of 5.8 percent

The UM System followed through on an announcement on Tuesday, where it said it would recommend raising tuition and required fees at MU by 5.8 percent.

Vice President of Finance and Administration Nikki Krawitz said the System stands to sacrifice quality if it does not implement this increase.

This will be an annual increase of $488 for MU's resident undergraduate students. The fee is broken into tuition and related fees, which are both being suggested to increase at different levels. Tuition is recommended to raise 6.5 percent at MU and Missouri University of Science and Technology and 5 percent and UM — St. Louis and UM — Kansas City. The required fees are advised to raise 1.1 percent, which averages the total fee increase to 5.8 at MU.

"The average cost to the student is going up," Krawitz said. "There is no doubt about that."
