Missouri off to fast start
Senior Michael Chandler takes down Eastern Michigan's Josh Moulton in the first round of the Midlands Tournament on Monday at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Chandler won the match 18-3.
The Missouri wrestling team is off to a fast start at the Midlands. Sophomore Todd Schavrien was getting dominated in his first match of the day against Pitt's Jimmy Conroy, and with less than 10 seconds remaining, Shavrien trailed by five points. With both wrestlers on their feet, Schavrien threw Conroy to his back and pinned him with three seconds left. The All-American trio continued their dominance as well. Junior Nick Marable began the day by defeating Steve Crozier of Air Force 13-6. In that match however, Marable gave up his first takedown of the season. Senior Raymond Jordan began the day by pinning Mike Ward of Rider in the second period. Junior Max Askren also started the day off well, by defeating Arizona State's Jake Cranford 17-2. The only Missouri wrestlers that have lost so far are senior Marcus Hoehn and senior Andrew Sherry.
Freshman Troy Dolan attempts to take down J.J. Krutsinger of Iowa in the first round of the Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University. Dolan defeated Krutsinger 1-0.
Sophomore Todd Schavrien takes down Pittsburgh's Jimmy Conroy in the first round of the Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University. Schavrien upset Conroy, who was seeded No. 7, by pinning him with three seconds remaining.
Junior Max Askren turns Arizona State's Jake Cranford during their first round match at the Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University. Askren won the match 17-2.
Junior Michael Chandler works for control over Bryan Duetsch of Northern Illinois. Chandler defeated Duetsch 5-1.
Senior Marcus Hoehn works for control against Michigan State's Collin Dozzier during the first round of the Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University. Hoehn won the match 14-7.
