This one's over
Texas just opened up a 55-24 lead with five minutes remaining in the game. The Tigers will go on to those their second straight game and abandon any realistic National Championship aspirations. Tonight Texas proved why they are the No. 1 team in the nation. While Missouri played poorly, Texas was nothing shy of spectacular.
Teams trading scores
Texas responded with an impressive drive of their own. Once again, the Longhorns made it look easy by driving 77 yards. McCoy scored his second rushing touchdown of the day, this time on a two yard carry.
While the offense has once again proved that they've figured out this Texas defense out by once again driving down the field for a touchdown, it's simply too late. Despite Missouri's recent offensive succes, they still find themselves trailing by 25 points.
Strong second half start for Missouri
The Missouri defense had their best performance of the day to start second half. They forced Texas to go three and out and even recorded a sack against McCoy.
Daniel and the offense also look reenergized. They picked up a couple of key third downs after going one for six on third down conversions in the first half. Washington completed a methodical drive of 81 yards over 3:42 seconds with a two yard touchdown run.
Tigers get on the board
Some days just aren't your days. It would be impossible to even envision a game where everything went the right way for one team and the wrong away for the other. On Texas' most recent scoring drive McCoy was stripped of the ball in the pocket, played it off the dribble, scrambled right and hit a wide open receiver for thirty yards with pressure in his face.
On Missouri's past two drives Daniel looks like he's figured out Texas' defense and has looked sharp. Wolfert ended the half with a 33 yard field goal to make the score 35-3.
Heartbreak for MU
After finally showing some offensive life, Daniel found senior wide receiver Danario Alexander on a fade route in the end zone on fourth and eight. But as a microcosm for the game itself, the play was overturned and ruled incomplete and Alexander's foot was said to be out of bounds. That meant a Tiger turnover and no points. Missouri still trails 28-0.
Now it's just ugly
This game has turned from ugly to sad. On both first and second down Daniel threw passes that could have easily been intercepted. On third down the Longhorns blitzed and the Missouri offensive line watched them run by. Daniel was dropped for a huge sack. What could be more embarrassing than this performance in front of his home state?
Texas too much for Missouri
Wow. McCoy was dropped for an 11-yard sack on a Longhorn first down, but not even that could save the Tigers. After a quick screen for nine yards on the next play, McCoy found Malcom Williams 32 yards down the field in the endzone. Williams snagged the ball over two Tigers, making an incredible catch. Missouri now trails 21-0. At this rate it looks like we'll see Texas' backups to start the second half.
Coffman commits costly penalty
Missouri may have just seen the game slip out of reach as Coffman was called for a pass interfence while screening a Texas defender. Maclin caught the third down pass and earned a first down, but the 15 yard penalty brought the Tigers back. Missouri trails 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Tigers go down two scores
Missouri's second drive didn't start off much better. Daniel nearly fumbled the ball on a fake jet sweep to Maclin and then junior wide receiver Jared Perry dropped a pass over the middle while he was wide open. It looks like the Tigers have tightened their usual extremely wide splits to avoid pressure from the defensive line. It's not helping much. Daniel has faced heat on every pass so far. A false start penalty seemed to kill the little momentum Missouri was building, and Daniel was later sacked on third and nine against a three man rush. If Missouri continues to play sloppy and commit costly penalties like they have so far, it's going to be a long night in Austin. Missouri had a chance to force the Longhorns to go three and out, but on third and six McCoy completed a quick slant that went for 38 yards. Right now there's a feeling Texas can do anything they want offensively. They've had a great mix of play calls and are making the Missouri defense look like a practice squad. McCoy has been simply incredible by avoiding pressure, stepping up and consistently hitting an open receiver. Senior running back Chris Obgonnaya finished the drive with a nine yard touchdown run. Texas is on a different level than Missouri.
